Malta

Malta, an island nation in the Mediterranean, has a little capital city called Valletta. The Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order, built the fortified city on a peninsula in the 1500s. Grand churches, palaces, and museums are well-known features. St. John's Co-Cathedral, which houses the Caravaggio masterpiece "The Beheading of Saint John", is one of the city's baroque landmarks.
