El Retiro Park is located in the heart of Madrid and is one of the most beautiful parks we visited! Beautiful gardens, monuments, and around the middle of the park lies a large lake where you can hire rowing boats (there was a huge queue when we went but definitely worth the wait). A few minutes away is the grand central square Plaza Mayor, with many little shops where you can buy some souvenirs, small cafes and street musicians/performers. If you are a foodie, the next spot is surely something you wouldn't want to skip - San Miguel Market. Numerous options, ranging from tapas prepared with fish and seafood to a wide variety of gourmet cheeses, jamon, meat, fruit, vegetables and desserts. And after having our tapas, just a few minutes from the market is the Royal Palace and Catedral de la Almudena.
